Abstract: This review briefly provides a general introduction to the Eighth National Symposium on Solid Mechanics for Young Scholars hosted by Tsinghua University. It summarizes the contents of presentations delivered by the invited experts and young scholars. It discusses the recent trends, the challenges and remaining questions in the development of solid mechanics subject in the new era.
