The damage process, fracure observation and numerical simulation studyof a tensile aluminium plate under the intense CO2 laser radiation is presented. If is found thar cracking initiates at the intersection of the laser radiation edge and a diameter which is perpendicular to the tension direction, and then, develops outward along this diameter until faiture.
